The Plastics Black and White Cathedral

This well crafted band of Psychedelic Indie Pop leanings has grown into a massive phenomenon and is one of the most popular acts in South Africa. After the success of their singles ‘Jukebox’ and ‘Caves’ reaching high in the charts, attaining number one positions on popular local charts, the band has gone even further into stardom, playing international events too.

They’ve just released their latest single which is, in their own words, “to remind you of all those parties and summer romances from the past few weeks…”

The Plastics have been Paul Bothner Music endorsees for many years. The gear which they use is renowned for its quality and performance delivery, just like this band.

The bouncy, romantic tune, ‘Those Three Words’, became the soundtrack to one of Apple’s iPod commercials. Their album ‘Shark’ was chosen, by both GQ Magazine and Cosmopolitan, as one of the Top 20 Albums out of a bunch of local and international releases.

The first music video off the album was for the song ‘Caves’ and was directed by talented young directors, The Morcos Brothers. They’re Academy Award Nominees and used their skills and pedigree to create a unique, and widely acclaimed, one camera shot dance-a-rama. It was chosen as one of the top eleven finalists for the Los Angeles Music Video Festival.

The second single off the album Shark, ‘Caroline’, reached No.4 on the MK Top 10 Music Videos Chart. A reprised version of their song ‘Stereo Kids’ was released, receiving high rotation commercial airplay, peaking at number 8 on 5FM’s Top 40 Charts.

In May 2012, The Plastics headed into Dreamspace Recording Studios to record their sophomore album, PYRAMID. The album was produced by Shai Caleb Hirschon. During this time, they also released a music video for Stereo Kids, which reached number 1 on the MK Top 10 Music Video Chart.

The second single, from the album Pyramid, ‘Best Pretenders’ peaked at number 8 on the 5FM Top 40 and the video of the song won a MK MVP award and reached number 1 on the MK Top 10 Music Video Charts.

The band is Pascal Righini (guitar and vocals), Karl Rohloff (bass guitar), Sasha Righini (drums) and Emile Van Dango (lead guitar).
